Interests
Read more about my interests in research.
My research focuses on the importance of sedentary behaviour, physical activity and fitness for public health in different contexts. Among other things:
- Is the principal investigator for the 6-year research program WORK TOGETHER, which aims to improve inclusion and efficiency in corporate health care's preventive work through co-creation with stakeholders and end-users. Learn more at gih.se/worktogether.
- I am responsible for the HPI group at GIH, which conducts research on a uniquely large database of health profile assessments conducted in the Swedish working-age population since the 1980s. Based on this, my colleagues and I have published articles about, among other things, the decline in fitness in recent decades.
- I have developed a fitness test on a bicycle, Ekblom-Bak cycle test, for calculation of maximal oxygen uptake (fitness).
- I am one of the researchers responsible for measuring the physical activity pattern (via accelerometer) and fitness in the large SCAPIS study.
- I have participated in studies in different clinical populations, including people with spinal cord injury and in evaluations of various lifestyle clinics for people with high cardiovascular risk
- I am researching method development to measure physical activity and fitness.
- I run the Wellness Pilot Clinic at GIH, where people who need support to become more physically active can turn to.
- I am the editor and author of the book "Prolonged sedentary behaviour – a health hazard in time" which was published in 2013, and was released in an updated version in the spring of 2021.
- I have worked with and published from the LIV studies conducted at GIH.
- I defended my thesis at Karolinska Institutet in November 2013.
