Interests
Read more about my interests in teaching, research and collaboration.
I teach at the health promotion program, master's program, doctoral courses. Some of my main courses are:
- Physical Activity and Healthy Brain Functions, 7.5 credits (School of Health Sciences)
- Independent project for the Health Promotion Programme
- Quantitative Methods, 5 credits (Master's Programme for Nordic Master in Outdoor Life)
- Latent Variable Modelling I. Structural Equation Modelling, 7.5 credits (Master's Programme and PhD courses)
I also supervise independent projects at undergraduate and graduate level.
My research focuses primarily on geriatric epidemiology, especially in healthy lifestyles associated with aging and age-related brain diseases, such as dementia. My research interest includes investigating the role of an active lifestyle in body-heart-brain connections during the aging process.
In previous and ongoing projects, I have studied:
- The associations between vascular risk factors, structural brain characteristics and dementia in elderly populations.
- Common risk and protective factors and mechanisms between stroke and Alzheimer's disease.
- Neuroformation markers in small vessel diseases of the brain, cerebral perfusion, and cerebral blood flow.
- The associations between physical activity, fitness and executive function in adults and older adults.
- Motor function and cognition in aging and dementia.
- The role of environmental factors in aging and age-related brain diseases.
I have an established and ongoing collaboration with Division of Clinical Geriatrics Karolinska Institute, the Stress Research Institute at Stockholm University, and Department of Medicine at Gothenburg University.
I have had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed international researchers, some of whom include:
- Ozioma Okonkwo, PhD, Associate Professor, Geriatrics Faculty, Clinical Science Center, Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison, WI, USA
- Fuzhong Xue, PhD, Professor, Core facility in Biostatistics, Department of Public Health, Shandong University, China
