Sanna Nordin-Bates

I teach at the coaching program, the health promotion program, the master's program, doctoral courses and freestanding courses. Some of my main courses are:

• Sports Psychology 2 (Applied Sports Psychology for the Coaching Programme and the Special Physical Education Teacher Programme)
• Sports Psychology 1 (for the Coaching Programme and as a freestanding course)
• Talent Development and Motivation (Advanced Sports Psychology, for Master's students and as a freestanding course at advanced level)

I also supervise independent projects at undergraduate and graduate level, and am the main supervisor of PhD student Charlotte Downing, whose thesis focuses on psychological aspects of early specialization from a motivational theoretical perspective.

Teaching Interests
I teach on the coaching programme, the health science programme, the MSc in sports science (master's programme), PhD student courses, and on openly available modules (freestanding courses). My main modules are:

• Applied Sport Psychology (for coaching students)
• Introductory Sport Psychology (for coaching students and on open modules)
• Talent Development and Motivation (for MSc students and as an open module)

I also supervise dissertations for BSc and MSc students, and supervise PhD student Charlotte Downing, whose thesis is focused on psychological aspects of early specialization from a self-determination theory perspective.

My research focuses primarily on perfectionism, and especially in dance and other aesthetic activities (e.g. gymnastics). In previous and ongoing projects, I have studied how perfectionism relates to a range of other variables including:

• motivation
• eating disorders
• creativity
• Mental Images
• Early specialization
• Leadership Behaviors
• self-esteem and self-confidence
• Performance anxiety

Before focusing on perfectionism, I wrote my dissertation (2002–2005) and conducted a post-doc period (2005–2008) focused on mental imagery in dance, and a post-doc project (2008–2011) focused on young dancers' talent development.

Research Interests
My research is focused on perfectionism, especially in dance and other aesthetic populations (e.g., gymnastics). In my past and ongoing projects, I have studied how perfectionism is related to a wide range of variables, including:

• motivation
• disordered eating
• Creativity
• imagery
• early specialization
• Leadership
• Confidence
• Performance Anxiety

Before I honed in on perfectionism as a special interest, I completed my PhD (2002–2005) and one post-doc (2005–2008) in the area of imagery in dance, and a post-doc project (2008–2011) relating to dancers' talent development.

I have an established collaboration with the Royal Swedish Ballet School, and also collaborate with Stockholm University of the Arts (Department of Dance Pedagogy) and the Ballet Academy. I also have regular contact with, and have the privilege of getting input and support from, the Swedish Gymnastics Federation.
