Interests

Read more about my interests in teaching, research and collaboration.

My teaching takes place mainly within GIH's master's program and doctoral education in sports science. Here I am responsible for the two compulsory courses Sports Science 1 and 2. I am currently supervising eight PhD students, five of whom are active at GIH and three at Stockholm University.

Outside of GIH, I mainly teach in my area of expertise: gender, sexuality and sports. Among other things, I have developed a workshop where I, together with students, investigate the power of gender in a number of different sports activities, games and dances.

As scientific leader of the research group for educational sport research (PIF group), I have a broad interest in influencing and learning processes as well as identity formation in sport in a broad sense. The PIF group's activities have two main focuses, one that deals with pedagogical processes in club sports, primarily children's and youth sports, and one that deals with pedagogical and didactic processes in the school subject of physical education.

For my own part, I conduct research primarily in two areas, gender, sexuality and sport and sports didactics. Sometimes these areas coincide, as in the previous project "The construction of gender and the view of the body in the school subject of physical education" (KIS project, 2002–2005) and in an investigation assignment for the Swedish National Agency for Education on girls' and boys' goal fulfillment in physical education (SKOJ-project, 2009–2010).

Currently, I am conducting research within the project "Heteronormativity in sports – as bisexual and homosexual people experience it" (together with Eva Linghede and Karin Redelius, 2012–2013), funded by the Swedish Centre for Sports Research and the Swedish Sports Confederation, and within the project "Physical education and health – a subject for learning?" (KUL-projektet, 2011–2013), a three-year research project funded by the Swedish Research Council in which employees from GIH and the universities of Gothenburg, Umeå and Örebro participate.

I am also the scientific director of the Graduate School in Sport and Health Education, FIHD (2012–2014), where 15 teachers in physical education in primary and secondary schools have the opportunity to study for doctoral studies. The graduate school is funded by the government via the Swedish Research Council and is a collaboration between GIH, Malmö University and Örebro University.

I am also a participant in the research group Research in Education & Movement Culture, which is an interdisciplinary research group that conducts research in the humanities and social sciences on movement, culture and society.

I conduct extensive collaboration both within and outside academic contexts, and with colleagues around the country on research projects and graduate schools. In recent years, I have carried out three evaluation/follow-up assignments of sports science activities at the University of Gothenburg (2008), the Norwegian School of Sport Science in Oslo (2011) and Linnaeus University (2012).

During the coming academic year, I will serve as chair of the assessment group for the Swedish Higher Education Authority's evaluation of the subject of sports science. At the moment, I am also GIH's representative on the board of the Centre for Sport Research.

When it comes to collaboration with the surrounding community, this takes place in various forms, including in terms of research and development projects in collaboration with the Swedish National Agency for Education (knowledge overviews, assessment support for teachers in physical education) and with the Swedish Sports Confederation (knowledge overviews, follow-up projects).

I also participate in various educational initiatives that have to do with the school subject of physical education and health and gender, sexuality and sports.
