Interests

I have a broad teaching experience in areas such as pedagogy, sports science and social sciences. I lecture in my research areas, such as sports, ethics and morals, the importance of leisure time in young people's lives, and the body and the present. I also lecture on leadership issues.

I am a trained physical education teacher at GIH. I am a professor of education and have been head of department at the Stockholm School of Education. I have also previously been Vice-Chancellor of the Swedish School of Sport Sciences in Stockholm, Director General of the Swedish National Board for Youth Affairs and Vice-Chancellor of Ersta Sköndal Bräcke University College.

In my research, I have studied sport as a cultural and educational environment. In this area, I have written the books "Competitive Sports as an Educational Environment" and "Football and Morals".

In my research, I have also studied the importance of free time for young people's identity formation and in this area I have written the books "The Serious Leisure" and "Leisure in Different Worlds".

I have also done research on the importance of the body in our time and on questions about the importance of the body in the formation of identity. Together with Birgitta Fagrell, I have published the book "The Speech on the Body".

For ten years, I have been chairman of the Centre for Sport Research and for eight years a board member of the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. For more than twenty-five years, I have been involved in Swedish football, including as a member of the Swedish Football Association's medical committee and currently as chairman of the Stockholm Football Association's scientific council. I am a board member of the Swedish Central Association for the Promotion of Sport and chairman of its research committee. I was also a member of the government's commission for health equity and have held a number of positions within the Stockholm Academic Forum and the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions.

I am also a member of the board of the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NIH) and appointed chairman of the Committee for the Promotion of Increased Physical Activity.

Other information

I have a broad sports background and have played volleyball when I was young. I have been a youth soccer coach and am now a diligent downhill skier and tennis player.
