Public Health Science

Public health science is an interdisciplinary field that studies the health of populations. Research and education in public health sciences at GIH contribute to good and equal health for everyone in the population, with a particular focus on physical activity and health promotion.

Health at the population level – physical activity and health equity

Public Health Science at GIH studies the health of the population, with a focus on levels of health, distribution, and development over time. The subject highlights how social, economic, environmental and lifestyle-related factors affect health and ill health, and how health inequalities arise between different groups. Particular focus is on physical activity and sedentary lifestyle as important determinants of health. Public health science also includes how to develop health promotion and preventive efforts to contribute to good, equal health for the entire population.

  • Intervention studies of preventive and health-promoting interventions in, for example, school, working life and society, with a focus on health equity.
