Pedagogy
The subject area of education at GIH has a broad focus on learning, which includes educational studies of socialisation, education, teaching and knowledge in general didactics, sports education, health education and higher education pedagogy.
Focus on learning and influencing processes
Pedagogy is about the science of education, teaching and upbringing in different contexts. In pedagogy, interest is directed towards learning and educational processes, both within the framework of school and the activities that take place in leisure time.
An important starting point is that everyone, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, socio-economics and sexual orientation, should have equal opportunities for education and learning. Other important pedagogical issues concern what opportunities people have to have influence over their learning.
Specialisations for research, education and collaboration
At GIH, pedagogy is organized into general didactics, sports education, health education and higher education pedagogy.
General didactics is about teaching: its purpose, content and methods, regardless of the school subject or whether this takes place in school or in higher education.
Sports education is about education, learning, upbringing and socialisation in sports. Particular focus is directed towards sport as a broad social phenomenon, both in school and in leisure time, in terms of goals and forms and opportunities for equal participation.
Health education is about education and learning linked to different perspectives on health, as well as about health promotion work at the individual, group and societal level.
Teaching and learning in higher education is about teaching and learning in higher education and focuses on how knowledge is conveyed, established and developed in academic environments.
Collaboration and partners
Important partners for researchers and teachers in education at GIH are actors in the education, sports and health sectors, both nationally and internationally. Close collaboration takes place in various research projects with a large number of national and international higher education institutions.
