It's great that you have chosen to study with us! As a new student, it can be a lot to keep track of. Here you will find information to help you get started.

New student spring semester 2025

Information on how to register and create a student account can be found below. If you are a new programme student, you will also find a welcome letter a little further down the page with practical information for your particular programme.

Semester and programme start

The spring semester 2025 starts on January 20.

Schedule

You can find your schedule in TimeEdit. The easiest way to search for your schedule is to search for the course name or course code.

Student account and registration

New student at GIH

As a new student in the spring semester of 2025, you can create and activate your student account in our account portal from 20 December . We recommend that you create your account from a computer and not from a mobile phone.

Remember to register for the spring semester's courses! The registration period is: December 20 - January 10. If you do not register by January 10, you will lose your place.

For those who are admitted to a course that starts in the latter part of the spring semester, registration takes place closer to the start of the course. You will receive more information about this as it approaches.

Student with ongoing programme studies at GIH

The regular registration period for students with ongoing programme studies at GIH is: 9 January - 16 January.

Keep in mind that you can also see when the registration period for your courses is when you log in to Ladok Student. External link, opens in new window.

To be able to use GIH's digital tools and systems, you must have a student account. You use this, among other things, to log in to the learning platform. As a new student, you create and activate your student account in our account portal.

If you already have an active IT account at GIH, you should continue to use it.

When you have been admitted to a course at GIH, you must register. If you do not register, your place is offered to someone else. Registration is also necessary for you to receive student aid from CSN.

Registration via Ladok Student

You register by logging in to Ladok with your student account. If you have not yet created a student account, you can log in with the same information as you use for antagning.se, with an active student account at another university or with an eduID External link, opens in new window..

Remember to check that your contact information in Ladok is correct. That way, you don't risk missing out on any important information about your studies.

To sign up:

  1. Log in to Ladok External link, opens in new window..
  2. Under "Upcoming" you will see courses that may be relevant to register for.
  3. Click on "Register" for the course you want to register for.
  4. Review and approve the registration by clicking on "Sign me up".

Equipment, literature and access cards

Here you will find information about equipment, course literature and how to get an access card.

Tuition at GIH is free of charge. However, you pay for personal sports equipment, literature, certain compendiums and certain costs in connection with a stay at the winter and outdoor recreation course.

As a new student, you can sign for an access card that gives access to GIH's premises. Contact the caretaker's office for access cards.

Programme students at GIH who have practical teaching in the schedule have the opportunity to buy a padlock for use of the lockers in the locker hall. For more information on how the padlock and locker hall work, visit our FAQ below:

Credit transfer, cancellation and deferment

Here you will find information on how to transfer credits from previous studies, cancel if you cannot start your education and how to postpone the start of your studies.

If you have previously studied at another college or university, you can apply for credit transfer of your previous studies.

The application is made in Ladok. While waiting for a decision, you must still register and start the education you have been admitted to.

Cancellation

If you cannot attend the course to which you have been admitted, you must cancel. You do this yourself by logging in to antagning.se External link, opens in new window..

Deferment of study start

If for some reason you cannot start the education you have been admitted to, you have the opportunity to apply to postpone the start of your studies, so-called deferral.

In order to be granted a deferral, you must have special reasons. The reasons must have arisen after you submitted your report and be of such a nature that you cannot control them. It can be social, medical or other special circumstances such as caring for children, military or civilian service, military basic training or student union assignments. You need to attach a certificate or equivalent that proves your reasons.

An application for deferment of study start must be sent as soon as possible to:

Student life

Here you will find information about things related to student life, such as student aid, housing and the student union.

In Stockholm, there are a few housing agencies that are primarily aimed at students, as well as several other actors that mediate housing.

Report a move

If you move to study at a university or college, you must be registered in the population register in your place of study. The basic rule is that you must be registered where you live, i.e. where you sleep most nights.

The notification of change of address is made via the Swedish Tax Agency's website and requires e-identification.

The Student Union works both to ensure that you can influence your education and to ensure that you have a good time as a student. Being a member is voluntary.

The union collaborates with GIH's sports association GIH IF and Klubbmästeriet, which organizes the student pubs, among other things.

How to get here

GIH is located at Lidingövägen 1, by Stockholm Stadium. It is easy to get here by public transport.

Parking

If you come by car, the nearest parking for students is in the middle of Vallhallavägen or in Sophiahemmet's parking lot. Permits for parking on GIH's campus are only issued to staff and invited guests.
