Carolina Klüft and Susanne Ravn new honorary doctors at GIH
The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences (GIH) appoints sports profile Carolina Klüft and Professor Susanne Ravn as new honorary doctors. Two women, with their different skills and experiences, actively promote physical activity on a scientific basis and contribute to better health.
From world-class athlete to socially committed leader
Carolina Klüft has an outstanding athletic career behind her, with Olympic gold and several World Championship titles. After her sports career, she has worked to promote physical activity and health. Since 2019, she has been the director of Generation Pep, an organization that works to ensure that children and young people have the opportunity and motivation to lead an active life.
In 2021, Klüft was appointed an honorary Doctor of Medicine at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. The appointment at GIH recognizes her long-term work to create the joy of movement and a sustainable view of physical activity in society.
– Carolina Klüft is a role model for how sports and science can be combined to inspire lifelong movement and health. Through her long-term work in Generation Pep, she has shown how commitment, knowledge, and social responsibility can be translated into practical action to strengthen the health of children and young people. These are experiences that will be valuable for GIH's work to promote movement and health in society, says Principal Per Nilsson.
– I feel incredibly honored and proud to have been appointed an honorary doctor GIH. It gives me strength and energy to continue the work of improving the conditions for all children and young people in Sweden to live active, healthy lives, says Carolina Klüft.
“A source of inspiration for our researchers and students”
Professor Susanne Ravn leads the research unit Movement, Culture and Society at the Department of Sport and Biomechanics at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, Denmark. Ravn works in an interdisciplinary context with a focus on dance, sport, and health, and has a strong foundation in the practical practice of movement. Her research has deepened the understanding of how movement and dance can be studied, learned, and taught.
– Susanne Ravn has become a source of inspiration for both our researchers and our students with her research and commitment. She combines in-depth scientific knowledge with practical experience and has significantly advanced movement and dance as a field of knowledge. Her contribution strengthens GIH's effort to combine research, education, and societal benefit in physical activity and health, says Per Nilsson.
– Being appointed an honorary doctor makes me feel very honored and happy. I look forward to working more closely with my colleagues at GIH and their important research on movement, says Susanne Ravn.
The honorary doctors will be honored at GIH's Academic ceremony on May 8, 2026.
The lectures by the honorary doctors will begin at 9:00 a.m.
