Doctoral thesis defence Manne Godhe

On 23 May, Manne Godhe, an employee at GIH and doctoral student at Karolinska Institutet, will defend his thesis "Physical activity and fitness measures in healthy older adults and hip osteoarthritis patients."

The doctoral thesis

The thesis, which includes approximately 1,500 older adults, aims to investigate physical activity and various tests of physical capacities, as well as the effects of exercise and hip replacement surgery. The results show good test-retest reliability of accelerometer-measured physical activity and most physical capacity tests.

Leader-led training over eight weeks improves physical activity levels and different physical capacities for several age groups of relatively healthy older adults. In addition, there are significant functional and physical activity improvements after hip replacement surgery due to pronounced hip osteoarthritis. These findings underscore the importance of exercise engagement and appropriate surgical interventions in improving senior populations' functional capacity and physical activity.

The Swedish title of the thesis is "Fysisk aktivitet och fysisk kapacitet hos friska äldre vuxna och patienter med höftartros".

The defense will occur on Friday, 23 May, at 09.00 a.m. in GIH's auditorium.
