Exercise for the brain health of the elderly

With increasing age, some of our cognitive abilities decline, but more and more studies indicate that our lifestyle can affect the preservation of cognitive abilities in a positive direction.

The research is in its infancy, but several studies suggest that physical and intellectual activity benefits older people's cognitive abilities.

This project, which is carried out in collaboration with Hjärnlabbet at the Aging Research Center, study how physical and cognitive training affects cognitive ability and mechanisms that are believed to support cognitive ability, such as brain structure, blood circulation and the presence of neuronal growth factors.

The project consists of two subprojects:

  1. The effect of physical and cognitive training on the cognitive ability of the elderly
  2. Direct effects of physical exercise and relaxation on brain health among healthy elderly people
