GIH is a public authority reporting directly to the Government.
GIH awards degrees in all three cycles in the area of Sport sciences. Under the Vice-Chancellor, GIH is organised in three academic departments. An Education and Research Board (UFN) consisting of elected members among teachers, researchers and students, is responsible for the regulatory framework of education and research as well as quality monitoring of education, research and third-stream activities.
The academic departments are organized by the Heads of Departments and coordination of the study programmes are provided by directors of studies. The Administration provides support to the departments and students, and oversees that GIH fulfils the requirements stated for public authorities.
All departments are responsible for international cooperation and mobility issues within their field of competencies. The Student Union provides mentoring services for international students. Internationalization activities are coordinated through the International Office, available at email: international@gih.se and by telephone on +46(0) 8 120 537 00.
Partner institutions are chosen according to the priorities outlined in the internationalization strategy. The Vice-Chancellor of GIH signs inter-institutional agreements. The Heads of Departments plan and implement the curricula and courses. The Director of studies of the study programme outlines learning agreements for outgoing as well as incoming students.

Fundamental Principles
The Swedish academic year is running for 40 weeks with an expected work load of 40 hours per week. One semester (20 weeks) of full time studies, 30 hp is equivalent to 30 ECTS. At GIH one semester (30 credit course) is often divided into four different course modules (4 x 7,5 credits).
Upon complition of the studies, an official Transcript of Records can be issued, documenting the students' performance by listing the courses taken and the ECTS credits gained.
Students who have been admitted to GIH can apply for evaluation of previous studies from another Higher Education Institution. Students who are planning to study abroad within their study programme at GIH are recommendet to set up a Learning Agreement with the help of the respective Faculty Programme Director before departure.
