In schools, in sports, and in the whole of society, people with a thorough knowledge of the areas of sports and health are needed. It is the task of the the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences to provide advanced education for those who are going to fulfil those needs.
The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences provides three kinds of programmes:
- Physical Education Teaching (3,5 or 4,5 years)
- Sports Science and Health Science (3 years)
- Sports Science and Coaching (2 or 3 years)
The language of instruction in all our programmes is Swedish. To be able to follow the education, students need advanced swedish language skills. It is therefore required for all applicants to have those skills by the time they apply.
The first year is based on joint courses for all four programmes and deals with human biology, behavioural science and theoretical aspects of sports and athletics. All four programmes provide the opportunity of creating one's own profile and of specializing by choosing optional courses and topics for the degree project.
The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences also provides those courses in sports and physical education which are included in the programmes for future primary school teachers and pre-school teachers.
Human biology includes the basic knowledge of the body and its functions, i.e. the conditions for human movement, through studies of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and motorial control.
Behavioural science with sports education illustrates the development of the individual in relation to the environment and acquaints the student with Swedish sports culture and its relationship to the rest of society.
Sports theory and methodology deals with practice and analysis of different types of physical activities and sports and an evaluation of their possibilities to promote health and well-being, motorial learning and ethical and social development.
